The history of the Onalaska Hilltopper Football is be added as the information becomes available.
School Color: Onalaska's mascot is the Hilltopper but did you know that we used to the Vikings? Also, our school colors are Purple and White but did you know they used to be Red and White? Click here for the story.
The Agricultural School became the Onalaska High School, students started calling it “Heaven on a Hill” and the name “Hilltoppers” was derived from that name. “Freddie Hilltopper”, the school’s present mascot was developed in 1956 when a teacher held a contest to draw up a mascot to represent the school. And that’s how it’s been ever since! This information was provided by the Sawmill book.
The tradition of the "Bell". Every time there is a touchdown at Onalaska, the bell is rung. You can hear the bell throughout the neighborhoods. The sound of accomplishment, the sound of achievement and pride.

Alumni
Tom Newberry, former NFL player, attended Onalaska High School. Newberry also attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Newberry made his professional debut in the NFL in 1986 with the Los Angeles Rams. He played for the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers over the course of his 10 year career.

2009-Freddy Hilltopper didn't make regular appearances at Onalaska High School events until he met Kevin Vilim.
The 17-year-old senior brought the mascot to life this school year by dressing up in a handmade costume for sporting events and other school activities.
